Resolved Question: Why do liberals hate conservative values?
Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy.
The 14 characteristics are:
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.
6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed .
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Resolved Question: the waight on a carry on bag with QANTAS or virginblue ? MELBOURNE?
Hi i previewsly ask for something similar. My apoligies but i cant acces that account and so i will re-enter anyone with full gredited ratings who ever answers the best question**
QUESTION: QANTAS domestic from BNE to MELB for a weekend holiday lets you carry free upto 7kilos on a carry on bag, Luggage which are these big suitecase can not be more then 20kilos
This is what i remember back last year.
How about VIRGIN BLUE ?
Just economic traveler nothing to do with business class or such as i wont pay that much for business just because i want to carry lots more kilos.
I will be taking a laptop bag the laptop bag is aprox 20sizes from the side because the LAPTOP is 18.4 sizes screen. When i hold the bag it feels heavy and whats in the bag is just the mouse and the laptop and allready feels heavy. I think it feels just about 7kilos But the problem is that the bag would look empty with just a mouse/laptop and thats it. I want to add things like papers pens... perhaps magazines and 3 disk and charger.. total would be probly about 8 and a half kilos to about 9kilos unfortunaly.
Qantas says you can not carry more then 7kilos or they will make you take things out of the bag.
Also im going to carry on my arm a thick winter goated jacket.
There will be myself my mother and father each one will carry a winter jacket on the side of them. each one will also carry a carry on bag so for them both they wont be carrying more then 7kilos.. But i will because the laptop is heavy and the whiole bag feels heavy with the laptop....
I will also carry a video small camcorder on the side of my hand maybe a little tiny camcorder bag. This means i will caryr a laptop bag which will be like 9kilos heavy... a thick jacket on my arm and a small camcorder bag that wont be more then kist 2 or 3 kilos.
So could i bring all this ? will they charge me? how much... what might happen?
I dont want to end up going around in circles and realise i have to take things out of the bag and improtantly i wotn dare put my 18.4 sizes laptop in my large luggage because it could break by the cargos.
I dont no if VIRGINBLUE is made easier but i know JETSTAR will defently be bad for all this.

Resolved Question: The Bizarre Case of Goel Ratzon -- Serious questions about: Mind control, Brain-washing, and Hypnosis?
I used to think these kinds of notions were bandied about rather flippantly, and for the most part just used as excuses for bad behavior.

1) Is this just an "ordinary" or "typical" example of a cult, or is this man practicing some kind explicit, specific, scientifically-repeatable, form of Mind-control and/or Brain-washing and/or Hypnosis?
2) Should we be developing sophisticated, carefully-crafted laws for dealing with Mind-control and/or Brain-washing and/or Hypnosis, and not just relying on laws against "physical enslavement"?
3.1) Are women more susceptible to this kind of thing than men, perhaps for a combination of genetic, evolutionary, and cultural factors?
3.2) Can anyone cite a comparable, well-documented example of a woman controlling dozens of men in a domestic-household or religious-cult?
[I usually come down on the side of freedom, individual expression, live-and-let-live, let-the-buyer-beware, and keep-the-state-out-of-personal-and-family-affairs, but this case is SO bizarre.]

Resolved Question: Google is another American company that failed in the Chinese market. Why?
Time magazine correctly points out that, "Google has not been doing all that well in China . . . badly trailing the domestic Chinese search company Baidu." Time acknowledges the failure of EBay and Yahoo in China. Why can't American Internet companies succeed in China? Is it lack of intelligence? Arrogance? Both?
Needless to say, Time magazine is a western media outlet with a long history of anti-Chinese commentary. We all know that is how misleading western media can be, so read this article with caution.
