LHSAA FP 56: Hackberry looks to repeat as Class C state champs
SULPHUR — A year after defeating Claiborne Christian in the state championship, the Hackberry Lady Mustangs are looking for their second state title in as many years in the LHSAA Fast Pitch 56 Class C state softball tournament. The top-seeded Lady Mustangs finished 20-3 in the regular season, winning District 4-C with a perfect 4-0 record.

Forest Lake community continues to rebuild
5,362 two homes were damaged in Tuscaloosa by the April 24, 2011 tornado. Twelve percent of Tuscaloosa was destroyed. One of the most visible areas of town, around Forest Lake and Hackberry Lane, was hit pretty hard. One former University of Alabama student was at home when the storm ripped through her apartment off hackberry. Since the storm, she's been able to use her experience a year ago ...

3 hit by pellet gun drive-bys in 2 nights
At 9:30 p.m., John Michael Cruz was walking east in the 1100 block of Rigsby Avenue when he too was hit by a pellet gun, police said. Late Sunday night, someone in a maroon SUV pulled up to a home on Gravel Street, near Hackberry and Iowa streets, and shot a man twice with a pellet gun before taking off, WOAI-TV reported.

Huge number of caterpillars spotted near Lawrence
A University of Kansas ornithology collection manager was looking for birds before dawn at the Kansas University Fitch Natural History Reservation north of Lawrence when he spotted tens of thousands of caterpillars munching on hackberries.
