Mansfield's Gilbert given Legion of Order medallion
The military career of Mansfield’s Walter Gilbert, 89, is highly decorated. He has earned 17 medals in total that include a Silver Star (the military’s third highest honor) and two Purple Hearts. As of Friday, May 18 he can add the Legion of Order medallion, the highest distinction of military honor in France, to the prestigious list.
